The formula
Tip = bill × tip% ÷ 100, Total = bill + tip. If you enter a number of people, Per person = total ÷ people.
Worked example
A $60 bill at an 18% tip is a $10.80 tip for a $64.80 total; split between 2 people that is $32.40 each.
Frequently asked questions
- Is the tip calculated on the pre-tax total?
- It tips on whatever bill amount you enter. If you prefer to tip pre-tax, enter the pre-tax subtotal as the bill.
- Is splitting required?
- No. Leave the “split between” field at 1 (or blank) and it simply shows the tip and total.
